Constructive call for clearer Holo/Holochain communication and action
First of all, I don’t believe most people labeled as "bitching and moaning" are upset because Holo or Holochain didn’t become an overnight success or because they think it’s a scam. I understand and respect what you’re trying to achieve in the blockchain and decentralized space. Many supporters also acknowledge that Holo and Holochain’s goals take time to build.
I accept that pivots are part of the entrepreneurial journey. That said, during pivots a team should maintain clear, consistent communication. Lately, the opposite has been happening — the team often seems to disappear or fails to provide regular, transparent updates.
Let’s remember Holo (HOT) began in 2016 with an ICO in 2017, so we’re talking about roughly eight years of development, research, coding, and strategic shifts. Early on it felt like the approach was to prepare every solution at once, which delayed releases.
It may be framed as "bitching and moaning," but to me the community is reacting to a perceived lack of visible progress and clarity from a project that has been active for a long time. People believe in the tech and the Holo/Holochain vision, but many also invested in the ICO and expect clearer communication about tangible progress. If there is action, it isn’t being communicated clearly enough.
Since the split, I thought the plan was to roll out smaller, more frequent releases — that’s a sensible strategy. With Unyt reportedly nearing release, that’s promising. Yet where is the communication and marketing around Unyt? A demo, a rebranding update about holofuel, clearer timelines and expectations — these are the kinds of things people are asking for. Also consider releasing dapp solutions on Holo to gather market feedback and attract partners.
This is not about wanting instant success; we get that development takes time. But right now I see insufficient action and a shortage of clear communication. Many projects keep users engaged with regular updates and usable releases, which is especially important when pivoting.
If significant funds are available for dapp development, there should be visible outputs or at least clear milestones to aim for. I want Holo and Holochain to succeed, and I’m rooting for them, but we need more frequent, clearer updates, better exposure for products, and less vague messaging. Highlight what companies or users are missing out on and make the technical story easier to understand.
I thought Eric Harris-Brown did a good job on the recent Holochain brief, and I appreciate how Humm Hive communicates and stays active. Can we expect similar visibility and engagement from Holo? This isn’t just complaining — it’s constructive criticism. We all want Holo and Holochain to do well.
