DeFi Chain's Critical Mistakes: Ignoring Big Picture and Halting Recovery Could Damage Future Growth
I'm convinced that most decision-makers involved in tokenomics and DeFi lack a comprehensive understanding of the bigger picture. They are so immersed in their validator-centric approach that they overlook that people have been waiting for 3 to 4 years for tangible progress. They still seem to believe that an unannounced future development will sustain the network and their validator economy. This misplaced confidence is damaging the remaining DeFi and ON chain activities, especially with the suspension of monthly buybacks, all without a clear roadmap.
Furthermore, the reliance on forums that no one reads highlights the disconnect between the developers and the community. The idea of abandoning older users in hopes of onboarding new ones through AI has already failed over the past two years. Historical systems like R1, which used real wallet snapshots during the hack, provide a lesson on transparency. I suggest we monitor September's DeFi volume, as I predict it could decline by around 90%. It seems evident that halting the flow of funds was a detrimental move, and the situation might have improved if issues with the previous system had been addressed with R1 in tandem.
Implementing rules similar to Mica and establishing a USDC pool should be the minimum steps forward—especially since current USDT users are missing out on opportunities, roughly 450 million people. Interestingly, among the older chains, this is the only one that still lacks a listing on any centralized exchange (CEX). Ironically, halting recovery efforts is perhaps the most detrimental decision they could make at this point, as it stalls growth and further damages confidence in the project.
