London Crypto Robbery: $123K Stolen After Drugging and Hacking

A distressing incident unfolds in London as a ride-share user claiming to be an American, Jacob Irwin-Kline, reports being drugged and robbed by an Uber driver. The driver allegedly handed him a cigarette laced with a substance presumed to be scopolamine, which incapacitated him while he remained conscious. Surveillance footage verified that Irwin-Kline entered a dark sedan, differing from the scheduled Uber vehicle, and his trip was reportedly canceled beforehand via the app. It appears that under the influence, Irwin-Kline may have unwittingly shared his phone password, allowing the attacker access to his cryptocurrency wallet. Soon after, he experienced a 20-30 minute period of unconsciousness. When he regained consciousness, the driver coerced him to exit and open the trunk before fleeing, leaving Irwin-Kline stranded without his phone in an unfamiliar area. Authorities confirmed that the assailants accessed his crypto assets through hacking his Revolut account, stealing an estimated total of $123,000—comprising XRP and Bitcoin. The case remains under investigation, with no arrests yet, and Uber has announced an internal probe into the incident.
