Magic Eden’s Brand and Budget Won the Bitcoin Ordinals Marketplace Race
I remember when Ordinals first launched on Bitcoin — there was a real race to ship a marketplace quickly.
I was building one for a client and finished at the same time as Magic Eden. Their team, working out of an Airbnb with more resources, shipped a cleaner product than my build in a dark apartment fueled by energy drinks.
Other teams actually finished earlier, but Magic Eden used its budgets and existing brand to crowd out the competition.
Analysis
The outcome highlights that speed mattered but so did capital and brand recognition; well-funded incumbents can quickly consolidate niche NFT markets even if smaller teams are technically competitive.
