Potential Growth in Abstractions Driven by New Opportunities in Crypto and Beyond
Recently, the focus has shifted towards writing extensively about abstracts.
A year and a half ago, the argument was made that crypto projects should generate revenue through products and then buy back tokens or burn them.
This was before Uniswap, Jupyter, and Hyperliquid announced buybacks. Despite ongoing regulatory reviews, the rationale was clear to me.
However, these projects share a common challenge: they rely on profits from crypto trading activity to fund buybacks. Currently, their entire revenue stems solely from crypto trading activities, functioning similarly to exo-cryptocurrency exchanges.
If tokenization of securities becomes fully successful, larger opportunities might emerge, but this remains highly uncertain.
For investors to fully accept securities as ownership claims, they need the ability to assert ownership through tokens. While in Korea, even if someone buys U.S. stocks through a securities firm, they can't claim the stock belongs to them if the firm fails, the government’s intervention provides trust in securities trading. For investors in countries with less trust in government and institutions, this might differ.
A year ago, exploring crypto and AI’s potential, especially with LLMs, was driven by the idea that as AI blurs human-machine distinctions, one could prove identity solely through tokens. However, apart from some retail players, this opportunity hasn't materialized fully, and my interest has waned. If $grass was truly generating substantial revenue, it would have disclosed its earnings transparently.
Currently, I see significant potential in abstractive approaches.
A year ago, few discussed the possibility of consumer chains within abstracts; perhaps only Pengu and I touched upon it. I had attempted to rationalize Pengu’s valuation based on gaps between crypto and legacy market buying power.
In April, I judged Pengu as undervalued, and I still believe it’s not overpriced now. Back then, Pengu’s valuation was 1/1000th of Disney’s, now it's 1/100th.
The main reason for frequent posts about abstracts lately is their recent announcement regarding $abs (tentative name), offering a chance to buy in. While the details remain unclear, success could provide a very attractive opportunity.
It’s time to focus on projects capable of growth outside of routine crypto revenues.
As I’ve emphasized many times, users don’t need to understand whether this is blockchain or what technology underpins it. As long as it’s fun, useful, or profitable, that’s enough.
