As a developer, I find it promising that an API will be available, enabling the use of the EdgeLLama consumer network in coordination with users, which could significantly reduce dependence on costly GPU datacenter infrastructure. The prospect of achieving better AI results than top AI companies for free is compelling. EdgeLLama's approach of leveraging Collama's community dataset methodology, akin to Wikipedia's crowd-sourced data, may lead to superior results while lowering operational costs and increasing user freedom. Security-wise, EdgeLLama employs public key cryptography and other mechanisms to ensure trustworthy system operations. This emphasis on cryptography indicates a focus on data integrity and secure interactions. While they support advanced cryptography like ZKML and FHE, the current focus remains on providing practical, accessible solutions that can be widely adopted today. The support for zk-based systems and encrypted data scaling will develop over time, acknowledging that technology with long development arcs, like cryptography, requires patience. EdgeLLama is inherently decentralized—over time, a permissionless protocol is expected to be available, enhancing openness and resilience. Interestingly, it does not rely on blockchain technology but offers decentralized features with mechanisms to prevent malicious nodes, akin to a blockchain's decentralization ethos. Nonetheless, there are plans to develop a blockchain protocol similar to Bitcoin but tailored for AI, potentially incorporating staking models for service quality and funding network development. Hyperspace positions itself at the intersection of AI and blockchain, emphasizing a peer-to-peer network that uses common user devices to create a form of supercomputing infrastructure.
